Tijani died yesterday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja after a protracted illness.

Tijani’s death was confirmed by his sister, Dr. Ganiyat Tijani-Adenle, a senior lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU).Dr Tijani-Adenle said his Janazah (burial) will hold today (Thursday) at Atan Cemetery (Muslim Side), Yaba, Lagos by 2pm.

The 55-year-old Tijani is survived by his wife and children.

Tijani was the Chief Executive Officer of SportsXclusive and Sports Focus International.

He started his career in journalism at a younger age, and evolved to be one of the most respected sport analysts in Nigeria. With over 280 interviews with sports personalities and celebrities.

He was once Chief Press Secretary to late former Minister of Sports , Chief Alex Akinyele.

The late Tijani, who started as a sports journalist in 1987, has travelled wide and far to cover sporting events across the globe. He plied his journalism trade in the Guardian Newspaper, Complete Football Fame magazine and went on to head Sports Desk at Channels TV and Head of Sport for BEN TV in the United Kingdom before starting his own sports company.
