Nigeria has no power to regulate DSTV prices — MultiChoice

Image
dstv South African digital satellite television company, Multichoice, has defended its decision to increase DSTV subscription rates in Nigeria, saying neither the country nor its courts, has the powers to regulate its prices. The ruling on the objection by Multichoice Nigeria Limited against an application seeking to stop the price increase has been scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Federal High Court, Lagos. Two Lagos-based lawyers, Oluyinka Oyeniji and Osasuyi Adebayo, had initiated a class action on behalf of millions of Nigerians who criticised the new subscription rates as exploitative and insensitive. The duo had sought the order of the court to stop MultiChoice or its agents from implementing the 20 per cent hike in the fees charged subscribers for using the service effective April 1, 2015. The plaintiffs equally asked the court to compel the National Broadcasting Commission to take steps to monitor and regulate MultiChoice operations in Nigeri...

Must Read : Footballer Emmanuel Adebayor attacks his family in new Facebook post

Image
Emmanuel Adebayor  Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has made a series of accusations against his family and refuted claims that he turned his back on them. Adebayor claims one brother, Rotimi, stole 21 mobile phones from a French football academy he had got him a place in. Continue.... A couple years ago, I bought a house in East Lagon (Ghana) for $1.2 million. I found it normal to let my older sister, Yabo Adebayor stay in that house. I also allowed my half brother (Daniel) to stay in the same house. A few months later, I was on vacation and decided to go to that house. At my surprise, I saw many cars in the driveway. In fact, my sister decided to rent out the house without me knowing. She also kicked Daniel out of that house. Note that the house had about 15 rooms. When I called her and asked for explanation, she took about 30 minutes to abuse and insult me over the phone. I called my mother to explain the situation and she did the same as my sister. This same ...

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has instructed police and military security personnel attached to him to respect traffic regulations during his movements. In a statement released by his media team in Abuja, Mr. Buhari said respect for the law would be the guiding philosophy of his administration, adding, “without leadership by example, the ordinary citizens would become copycats of the lawlessness of their leaders”. The President-elect explained that the “arrogance of power, lawlessness and disregard for the rights and convenience of fellow citizens would have no place in his government”. According to him, for leaders to inspire respect, they must obey the laws of country, adding that when leaders treat the country’s laws with contempt, they might send the wrong message to the citizens. Why I Am Owing 13 Months' Salary - Governor Okorocha

Image
Okorocha Okorocha Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has attributed the poor state of the nation’s economy for the non-payment salary arrears being owed government workers in some states of the federation.  Okorocha said this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and governors-elect on Tuesday in Abuja. The governor said that just like the states, the Federal Government was also finding it difficult to pay the salaries of its workers.  It would be recalled that Okorocha pledged to pay the 13 months salary arrears owed primary school teachers in the state during this year’s Workers Day.  “We must say that the economy is bad, let’s face the fact. Most governors are not able to pay salaries and there is no magic any governor can do to pay salary under the present situation.  “We intend to take that up with the President-elect to inform him of the challenges before him, to prepare his min...
