FEC awards N309.9bn road contracts to Dangote

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the award of a contract to Dangote Industries for the construction of five roads totaling 274.9 km at the cost of N309.9bn to be advanced to the company as tax credit. Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). “The second memorandum presented by the ministry was for the construction or the reconstruction, as the case may be, of five road projects in favour of Dangote Industries Limited, totaling 274.9 kilometres of federal roads, under the Federal Government Roads Infrastructure Tax Credit policy,” he said. “Those five roads totaling 274.9 kilometres will cost N309,917,717,251.35 to be advanced by the Dangote Industries as tax credit. “The roads, specifically, are Bama to Banki in Borno State for N51.016 billion with 49.153 kilometres; Dikwa to Gamboru-Ngal...

Anti Corruption campaign: EFCC Launches App for Online Reporting of Economic Crimes

  The Economic and Financial Crimes commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, launched an App, Eagle Eye, designed to ease the process of reporting economic and financial crimes in Nigeria. Speaking during the launch, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, described the App, being the first of its kind by any law enforcement agency in Nigeria, as a product of ingenuity by a staff of the Commission, being an application that was conceived, designed and developed by the EFCC. According to the EFCC chairman, the initiative is a clear demonstration of his pledge on assumption of office, to run an agency that is technology-driven. “The Eagle Eye represents a new experience in information sharing and crime reporting between the public and the EFCC”, he said. EFCC Press Release Two Bag Two Years for N25.7m Pension Fraud in Maiduguri

  Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court sitting Maiduguri, on July 12, 2021 convicted the duo of Mohammed Nazir Auwalu and Sani Musa for offences bordering on criminal misappropriation to the tune of N25, 780, 888.38 (Twenty Five Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Eight Naira, Thirty Eight Kobo), contrary to Section 308 and Punishable under Section 309 of the Penal Code Cap. 102 Laws of Borno State. The defendants who have never held any pensionable appointment, received the sum as pension from the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) from September 2010 to April 2018. The lid on the scam was blown by Polaris Bank which reported the fraud to the Commission The convicts were arraigned on July 8, 2021 on a one-count amended charge.
