Sepp Blatter Re-Elected FIFA President For5th Term

Sepp Blatter was re-elected as the president of FIFA today amid allegations from U.S. and Swiss authorities of alleged corruption and bribery that have plagued soccer’s international governing body. He defeated Prince Ali Bin-Hussein of Jordan to retain his position at the top of one of the world’s most corrupt organisations. After the first round of voting, there was no clear winner, as neither received the necessary two thirds majority vote to win. Prince Ali received 73 votes and Blatter received 133. Ali withdrew before the second round of voting. -GISTREEL

PDP National Secretariat Closed

The national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was closed to administrative and other activities on Friday as members of the PDP national renaissance movement stormed the Wadata house on a protest to demand the immediate sack of the entire national working committee of the party. Shortly thereafter, another group came out on a counter protest demanding the retention of the current leadership. AIT

Nigerian Minister, Adesina, elected President of African Development Bank

adesina Nigeria’s outgoing Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, on Thursday emerged the 8th President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Mr. Adesina, 55, will succeed incumbent president, Donald Kaberuka, at the end of his second term as President of the Bank in August 2015. The new AfDB President emerged WINNER at the end of the election conducted by the Board of the Bank during the annual meeting of the African Development Bank Group in Abidjan. Mr. Adesina’s victory was announced by the Minister of Planning and Development for Côte d’Ivoire, Albert Toikeusse Mabri, who is currently the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Bank. Mr. Adesina defeated seven other candidates, including Sufian Ahmed, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Ethiopia; Jaloul Ayed, President, MED Confederation of Tunisia; Kordjé Bedoumra, Minister of Finance and Budget, Republic of Chad; and Cristina Duarte, Cape Verdean Minister of F...
