Breaking: El-Rufai announces partial lockdown in Kaduna... declares markets shut except for food sellers

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has directed a partial lockdown in Kaduna state, saying that, all civil servants from Level 12 and below, should remain at home for the next 30 days, effective from Tuesday. El Rufai in a state broadcast today, directed that from Tuesday, markets should be partially open, saying that, ‘’only traders selling food and medicines are permitted to open their shops. El-Rufai who said that the directive became necessary to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, pointed out that, his government will not hesitate to enforce a total lockdown of the state of the need arises. The Governor however said that workers providing essential services workers in the health, security and emergency service sectors are exempted from this directive.

COVID-19: Declare state of emergency, Falana tells Buhari

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a State of Emergency in the country. Mr. Falana’s reaction comes amid the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the country. “Last week, the Federal Government and a few state governments belatedly responded to the coronavirus pandemic,” Falana said in a statement released today said. “Since then the authorities have advised Nigerians to comply with certain measures to contain the dreaded disease. “But as the said measures are not backed by any law they have been ignored by some highly placed Nigerians including political and religious leaders. Three pastors arrested for flouting LASG’s directive

The Lagos State Police Command on Monday said that three pastors were arrested but later released on Sunday for allegedly conducting church services in deviance to the Lagos State Government {LASG}’s  order. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ali in charge of Operations, Lagos Command, confirmed the arrest of the pastors to the News Agency of Nigeria {NAN}. Ali said that one of the pastors arrested is from one of the Pentecostal Churches. He said that the pastors were not detained but warned  to comply with the government’s directive to prevent further spread of coronavirus. He said, “We did not hold our weekly prayers in the mosque at the police headquarters because we had to comply with the directive of the Lagos State Government. “I also implore churches and other religious organisations to follow suit,” he said.
