Obama's parting message to Africa divides Twitter In a wide-ranging, historic address at the African Union HQ on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama tackled a host of contentious issues, including corruption, development and a hot-button issue of African democracy: term limits. It was the speech everyone was waiting for. Having already traveled to Kenya and Ethiopia, Obama's final appointment was a speech at AU HQ, where he would address the AU Commission. The US president, under pressure from all quarters, was expected to address issues of human rights, democracy, and to talk of an Africa developing at an impressive clip. The address was typically Obamaesque. Charming. Sweeping. Thorough. Beginning by saying he was "the son of an African", Obama had the audience hanging on to every word. A report by Compliance and Content Monitoring Ltd (CCM) has revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Party (APC) spent a combined N3.23 billion on political campaign advertisements for this year’s general elections, according to a report at the weekend. According to the report PDP spent for about N2.5 billion (77 per cent) and APC spent N728 million (23 per cent). CCM said the media advertisements were placed on radio, television, press and billboards for the PDP and the APC presidential campaigns between December 2014 and March. The Managing Director of CCM Limited, Mr. Tunde Onadele, who spoke at the unveiling of the report, said about 253 creative materials were deployed across radio and television channels in all the 260+ stations monitored by CCM, with PDP utilising 145 materials. Lagos State To Move Against Noise Pollution

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday commenced a bid that could help the state stem the rising trend of noise pollution. It was learnt that residents of the state have variously complained about the impact of noise pollution from places of worships, commercial bus drivers, and those who use loud speakers in the sales of their commodities. The House, apart from calling on the state Ministry of Information and Strategy to begin an enlightenment campaign to sensitise the public on the danger that noise pollution poses to health and the need to stem its tide, also called on the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to direct the General Manager of the state Environmental Protection Agency to commence the discharge of the statutory responsibility conferred on the agenvy by Section 9 (a) of the state Environmental Protection Agency Law, 1996.
