Atiku donates N50m to fight Coronavirus, tells MTN others to give Nigerians free airtime

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has donated N50 million to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the nation. Atiku, whose son is also infected with the deadly virus, donated the money through his company, Priam Group today. The former Vice President, in a statement, said as the coronavirus pandemic ravaged the world, he applauded the various Nigerian state governments who had proactively taken measures, such as issuing stay at home orders, and shutting down non-essential markets and other places of mass gatherings, while also giving guidelines for social distancing. “However, we must accept the fact that much of the Nigerian public have a subsistence existence. President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, many governors, ministers and other top government functionaries mingled with Malam Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to the president shortly before he tested positive to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Kyari, who returned to Nigeria from Germany on March 14, had participated in several state functions and unofficial engagements that attracted prominent personalities. It was gathered that yesterday’s confirmation that Kyari tested positive to COVID-19 necessitated the subsequent test on President Muhammadu Buhari, which turned out to be negative.
