Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa who promised to give N30m to traders of Sokoto’s old market who lost their shops, goods and properties in the fire outbreak that took place on July 24th, 2016 has kept to his promise. According to Hausa media outlet, Rariya, the former governor was represented by the Sokoto State PDP Chairman, Ibrahim Milgoma, who distributed the amount in cash to the traders. Brazilian legend Pele to visit Nigeria

Brazilian World Cup winner Pele is expected in Nigeria for a historic visit in August as part of events planned by the Winihin Jemide Series and Youth Experience Days Africa. Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the three-time World Cup winner will headline a youth football tournament that will take place at the Astro-Turf in Ikoyi as well as a leadership meeting with Corporate Nigeria. Famous for scoring 1,281 goals during his career, Pele won the first of his three World Cups as a 17-year-old at Sweden ’58 before adding two more titles at Chile ’62 and Mexico ’70. The WJS/YEDA Legend Edition 2016 is a 2-day event (11th -12th August, 2016) focused on youth development and empowerment through a once-in-a-lifetime inspiring experience with Pele. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has disclosed why he honoured the invitation of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris to make peace with the current Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who was the immediate past Governor of Rivers State. While speaking with PDP supporters at the Rivers West Senatorial District rally in Degema LGA yesterday, Wike said he attended the peace meeting because he is a lover of peace and his administration would implement the resolutions of the meeting.  “I was at the peace meeting because we love peace and want the state to move forward. I signed an undertaking on your behalf that we are prepared for INEC credible, free and fair elections. It is not in our position to have crisis because we are the ones losing,” he told his party supporters.

Over 100 Reps Demand External Probe Of Budget Padding

There seems to be no let up to the 2016 budget scandal rocking the House of Representatives. Over 100 members yesterday joined the fray, calling for “an external investigation with a view to finding out if our principal officers are guilty or not”. They did not state if the probe should be by auditors or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Also yesterday, former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon called for “stiff penalty” for anyone found guilty of the padding. Former Appropriations Committee chairman Abdulmumin Jibrin blew the lid on the scandal following his removal last week by Speaker Yakubu Dogara. He accused Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuff Lasun, Chief Whip Alhassan Ado -Doguwa and Minority Leader Leo Ogor of appropriating to themselves N40 billion of the N100 billion meant for the 360-member House. AGN Abuja mapped out a two day awareness programme 28th and 29th of July 2016 to mark this year's United Nations day On Human Trafficking.
