UNIJOS Suspends Professor Caught Cheating In Exams

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has suspended one of its academic staff who was allegedly caught cheating while writing an examination on May 4,  Premium Times  reports. Benedicta Daudu, an associate professor of law and former head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law of the Faculty of Law in UNIJOS, was allegedly caught copying from a prepared answer during an examination for a Master’s degree in Research and Public Policy in the Faculty of Social Sciences of the same university. The development was exclusively reported by Premium Times on May 21, frustrating what some staff and student described as a plot by the university to cover up the matter. Oyo Dismisses 662 Civil Servants Over Fake WAEC Results

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday said 662 civil servants had been dismissed from the state public service for forging the West African Examination Council’s certificates. The state government added that 2,021 fictitious names of workers and pensioners had been removed from its payroll. The state Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, made the disclosure while briefing the press on the decisions made at the State Executive Council meeting which was held on Monday. Also at the briefing were the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju. Eniade said about 684 workers were not found at their duty posts during the last physical verification in the state. He explained that the state government was restructuring the state public service by ascertaining the quality and quantity of the workforce. Gov. Amosun rewards street sweeper, traffic officer and 3 others with 2 bedroom flat for work dedication

Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday awarded a traffic warden, a street sweeper and three other civil servants each with 2 bedroom flat, for their dedication in their respective jobs. The Governor said he had been monitoring the street sweeper and the traffic officer for quite a while but didn't know their names. Adding that the other three recipients were picked from the list of outstanding civil servants compiled in May for May Day. The beneficiaries were Adekoya Folasade, Wole Dosunmu, Waheed Adesina, of the ministry of information and strategy and Sule Isiaka who works with the governor’s office. The Governor announced the gift during the presentation of keys to successful applicants of AAK Degun MITROS Estate in Laderin Area of Abeokuta.

FG Bans Importation Of Vehicles Through Land Borders

The Federal government has banned importation of vehicles into Nigeria through the land borders. The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Wale Adeniyi, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Lagos. According to the statement, the prohibition order covers all new and used vehicles. “The ban is sequel to a Presidential directive restricting all vehicle imports to Nigerian seaports only. The order takes effect from Jan. 1, 2017. The restriction on importation of vehicles follows that of rice, whose imports have been banned through the land borders since April 2016. Importers of vehicles through the land borders are requested to utilise the grace period up till Dec. 31, 2016 to clear their vehicle imports landed in neighbouring ports, ’’ the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes the statement as saying.

Corpers Refuse Participation In Rivers Rerun Election

Investigation revealed that corps members who are being contacted to serve as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission are refusing to participate in the election because of fear of possible violence during the election. A source who confided in a Punch correspondent said that the corps members were not showing the usual enthusiasm to participate in the election because of the accusations and counter-accusation between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike , and INEC.  The source said, “Corps members being contacted by INEC to participate in the Rivers rerun election are showing reluctance to serve in the election. “A good number of them are afraid that there could be violence during the election, and these are young men and women who don’t want to get killed because of some election.” When our correspondent contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, he said that it was only the Resident Electoral Commissioner in ...
