Edo Gov Election: Army To Deploy Drones

To ensure fair, free and credible governorship election on September 28 in Edo State, the Nigerian Army said it would deploy drones to monitor strategic location during the conduct of the election. The Commander of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Raji Benbela, who spoke to journalists in Benin during operation show of force staged by a combined team of security agencies in the state, said the deployment of the drones will support the aerial view of strategic locations across the state and also help to check activities of hoodlums. He said the show of force was not to intimidate the people but to assure them to come out en masse and vote on Election Day, adding that security agents would be deployed to strategic locations to stop unwanted elements from disrupting the process.

Benin monarch’s coronation postponed

The Benin Traditional Council on Wednesday announced October 20th, 2016, as the new date for the coronation of the Crown Prince of Benin Kingdom, Prince Eheneden Erediauwa. Prof. Gregory Akenzua, Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee, made the announcement at a news conference at the Oba’s palace in Benin. According to Akenzua, who is the Enogie of Evbuobanosa/Abudu, the date for the coronation has been changed from September 26 to October 20, 2016. “The change of date is sequel to the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] that they have changed the date of the Edo Gubernatorial election which was originally September 10 to September 28, 2016. “As a result of this change, Benin Crown Prince will now depart finally from Uselu palace for Eko-Ohae on October 8, 2016. “And he will perform some important ceremonies connected with coronation everyday for seven to 10 days prior to the day of his final departure from Uselu,” he said.
