Topic: Cumbered with Depression? [Friday 19, August 2016] Memorise:   But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. –  1 Kings 19:4 Read:  1 Kings 19:1-8  (KJV) 1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. 3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my l...

Usain Bolt claimed his eighth Olympic gold medal and made history once again on Thursday. The Jamaican is now one day away from landing the ‘triple triple’ and he will attempt to complete the incredible feat in the Rio 2016 Stadium on Thursday evening. The victory in his favoured event was Bolt’s 13th individual world or Olympic sprint title from a possible 14 since he took athletics by storm at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The 29-year Jamaican timed 19.78 seconds for gold, Canadian Andre de Grasse taking silver with 20.02sec and France’s Christophe Lemaitre winning bronze (20.12). As Guns N’Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” blasted out, huge cheers greeted Bolt, wearing black lycra shorts and a singlet in the green, gold and black colours of Jamaica. The sell-out Olympic Stadium crowd, which has been criticised for its jeering of some athletes, were raucous in their welcome of the Jamaican star. Bolt, in his favoured lane six, had Lashawn Merritt, the American 400m specialist and sole U...

A top official of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria who disclosed this to a source on Thursday, said the kits which arrived Wednesday night would no longer serve any purpose because “most of the athletes have left after concluding their events”. He added that “I have never experienced this in my years in sports. Money meant for the Games was held tightly by ministry officials. We had to buy kits on our own while some athletes competed in their personal kits.” It would be recalled that Team Nigeria had to resort to their warm-up track suits for the match past of the Opening Ceremony as the sports ministry claimed the official attire which was showcased before President Muhammadu Buhari during the hand-over ceremony in Abuja failed to arrive on time for the ceremony. Nigerians w...
