gana South African politician, Makashule Gana, has said some of his compatriots have complained to him that they are angry with Nigerians and other immigrants because they snatched their girlfriends. Gana, a Deputy Federal Chairperson of Democratic Alliance, made this disclosure in at an anti-xenophobia rally, held at Constitution Hill. South African newspaper, City Press, reported that Gana advised that rather than get angry and take the anger out on foreigners, South African men should “provide” properly for women, rather than lash out at non-nationals for “stealing” women away. A team of Nigerian lawyers, numbering about 128, have offered to defend Senator-elect, Dino Melaye, who won the Kogi West Senatorial District election, but whose victory is now been challenged by his Peoples Democratic Party’s opponent, Smart Adeyemi, at the state election tribunal. Among the lawyers who have offered free legal service to Mr. Melaye are Femi Falana, Rickey Tarfa and Festus Keyamo, and other 126 laywers. Mr. Melaye revealed the offer of pro bono legal service to him to  Premium Times . Mr. Adeyemi, who is the incumbent Senator representing Kogi West in the Nigerian upper legislative chamber, contested the March 28 election as the candidate of the PDP. Mr. Melaye was candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the election. Another Buhari supporter is about to trek again. Abubakar Duduwale who hails from Yola, Adamawa State, says his trekking is to express his joy that General Buhari won the just held presidential election and he would also like to witness the inauguration ceremony on May 29th, hence his trekking exercise. Duduwale who took off about 6.30am this morning said this to news men;  “The reason why I am trekking from Yola to Abuja is to express my joy and solidarity with President-elect Muhammadu Buhari. I want to trek from Yola to Abuja to witness the inauguration ceremony of President-elect,” Duduwale said. It will also be recalled that another Nigerian, Suleiman Hashimu had just successfully trekked from Lagos to Abuja to fulfil the promise he made that if the General wins, he will trek from Lagos to Abuja. He was also privileged to meet the president-elect this week. Let’s wait and see the outcome of this too.

Following agitations by civil servants in Osun State over the non-payment of salaries, the State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has challenged labour leaders in the state to suggest how his administration could generate more funds to meet its obligations. It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress in the State in December, 2014 had said the allocation accruing to the state had fallen from N3.8bn per month to N1.3bn. The labour leaders have however said the government should consider the re-introduction of PTA back to schools to be able to raise little money considering that the people of Osun have been enjoying free healthcare, free education coupled with free meal for the students. They also recommended that the governor should prioritise capital projects   and complete them in phases. Osun meal The Osun State Government is considering a review of its policy of free feeding of primary school pupils in the state. Governor Rauf Aregbesola had set up a committee to work out how to implement the review of this policy. The nine-member committee, which is also working on the review of the state’s free health programme for children and the elderly, may recommend that parents be made to pay a little levy for each  child in  school. The committee comprises permanent secretaries in the state and a Level 17 officer, who is a director. Labour leaders in the state recommended the review of the free feeding policy alongside others to save money for payment of salaries of civil servants and to carry out developmental projects. The Aregbesola government has, for almost six months, been unable to pay workers salaries, a development it blames on dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.
