AGN Abuja Chapter Curses EMEKA IKE Out For Insulting An Elder

The battle line has been drawn between the Abuja chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, and actor Emeka Ike, following a recent face off which the latter had with one of the veteran actors and a staunch member of the chapter, Chief Tony Nworisa. The chapter claimed that Emeka Ike insulted the veteran actor without any justification for his action. It, therefore demanded an apology from the actor, insisting that unless he apologizes to the chapter, none of its members will have anything to do with him again. The chapter recalled that on the 24th of November, shortly after its monthly meeting which held at Asset Gardens Garki Area 8, where some members of the chapter were invited for a casting at Febson Hotel. Man Arraign for Stealing 1,089 Bags Of Rice Worth N6.5m

A 35-year-old Olatubosun Soyelu, who allegedly stole 1,089 bags of rice was, yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos magistrate’s court, Igbosere. The rice valued at N6.5 million belonged to Christlieb Plc and Brands Capital Ltd. The defendant is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft. The prosecutor, SP Eshiet Eshiet, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between February and June, 2016 at Block G, Sura shopping complex, Sampson Street, Lagos. According to him, the offence was punishable under Sections 285 and 267 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011. However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate, Mrs O. Martins granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be blood relation and gainfully employed and also show two years evidence of tax payment clearance to Lagos state, Nigeria.

UNIJOS Suspends Professor Caught Cheating In Exams

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has suspended one of its academic staff who was allegedly caught cheating while writing an examination on May 4,  Premium Times  reports. Benedicta Daudu, an associate professor of law and former head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law of the Faculty of Law in UNIJOS, was allegedly caught copying from a prepared answer during an examination for a Master’s degree in Research and Public Policy in the Faculty of Social Sciences of the same university. The development was exclusively reported by Premium Times on May 21, frustrating what some staff and student described as a plot by the university to cover up the matter. After the report, Mrs. Daudu’s membership of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption was immediately suspended. Oyo Dismisses 662 Civil Servants Over Fake WAEC Results

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday said 662 civil servants had been dismissed from the state public service for forging the West African Examination Council’s certificates. The state government added that 2,021 fictitious names of workers and pensioners had been removed from its payroll. The state Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, made the disclosure while briefing the press on the decisions made at the State Executive Council meeting which was held on Monday. Also at the briefing were the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju. Eniade said about 684 workers were not found at their duty posts during the last physical verification in the state. He explained that the state government was restructuring the state public service by ascertaining the quality and quantity of the workforce. Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday awarded a traffic warden, a street sweeper and three other civil servants each with 2 bedroom flat, for their dedication in their respective jobs. The Governor said he had been monitoring the street sweeper and the traffic officer for quite a while but didn't know their names. Adding that the other three recipients were picked from the list of outstanding civil servants compiled in May for May Day. The beneficiaries were Adekoya Folasade, Wole Dosunmu, Waheed Adesina, of the ministry of information and strategy and Sule Isiaka who works with the governor’s office. The Governor announced the gift during the presentation of keys to successful applicants of AAK Degun MITROS Estate in Laderin Area of Abeokuta.
