AGF Abubakar Malami (SAN) while acknowledging the remarkable achievements of the EFCC under the watch of Mr Ibrahim Magu in Abuja on Thursday, December 19, 2019 said, “ One of the multiple institutions involved in the fight against corruption, the EFCC, was able to, from 2015 to September 2019 convict 1,636 persons involved in corruption related offences. “It might interest you to note that former governors and even serving senators are not spared. Currently, high profile personalities including judicial officers and former governors indicted for corruption have been prosecuted and many sentenced to jail. “We have three former governors convicted and serving various jail terms for corruption related crimes while in office. “Equally, 22 ex-governors are either under probe or on trial. The Whistle-blowing policy is also well implemented and has yielded lots of recoveries of stolen assets in Nigeria.”

Donald Trump has been impeached in the United States House of Representatives. The House has found the Republican president abused his office by asking Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, his biggest rival in the 2020 election. Members have so far voted in favour of the first article of impeachment, that Trump abused his power.  The vote was 230 in favour and 197 against. A Federal High Court in Kano on Monday dismissed a bribery suit against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for lack of evidence. Kano-based lawyer, Bulama Bukarti, filed the suit, asking the court to mandate the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Ganduje for allegedly receiving a kickback from a contractor. Editor-in-chief of Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, in 2018 released videos showing the governor allegedly collecting bribes in dollars and stuffing the money in his attire. Ganduje insisted that he was not the person captured, saying the clips were photoshopped. He also filed a N3 billion libel suit against the newspaper and its editor.

Abuja based publisher, Mr Sunny Anderson has returned the sum of N98 million that was mistakenly transferred into his bank account. Anderson shared the news online, saying the transfer came from an Abuja based company. While sharing the news, he hinted he doesn't have much and his account clearly stated he had N668 balance before the N98m was paid into it, but prayed God won't let 'us' take anything that belongs to another no matter the level of lack. He wrote, “Today, God gave me the grace to return the sum of N98,000,000 (Ninety Eight Million Naira) that was mistakenly transferred into my Acct by a company based in Abuja. God will never allow us take what belongs to someone else, no matter our level of LACK”
