In what was supposed to be a day and moment of political declaration but later turned out to be a day and moment of political mentorship, Mayor Rotimi Adebari answered the call by his people from Ogun West Senatorial District to serve the state in the coming political dispensation. The beacon coming from the Young Progressive Party of Ogun West Senatorial District was a beacon to service judging from the wealth of political experience of Mayor Rotimi Adebari especially in international politics. The venue of the event was Royal Pavillon Hotel Ibara Housing Estate Abeokuta, Ogun state and the date was 9th of June, 2018. In attendance were the executives of YPP Ogun state, YPP Ogun Central, East and West Senatorial District and close friends and associates of Mayor Rotimi Adebari.
In his address, Mayor Rotimi Adebari gave a brief background of his political journey in the Republic of Ireland, noting that he was never a politician but a community activist. It was this ideology and principle of giving service to the community that stood him out among the people not minding his race and country and therefore won him the election as a Mayor.
He thus highlighted some critical areas the executives and members of the YPP could explore so as to come out successful in the coming 2019 elections. Some critical part of his highlight include:
(1) Politics as a game of number: Mayor Adebari noted that politics is a game of number and the higher the number, the higher the chances of winning an election. He advised members to began a strategic game of 10 in which each member brings in 10 persons into the party and also encourages the 10 to bring in another 10 each. This is noted grows like a pyramid in which the number of members increase rapidly within a short time.
(2) Canvasing: He noted that while we campaign in Nigeria, canvasing is the norm in Ireland. He added that canvasing was more tidious and stressful compared to campaigning because it involves knocking from doors to doors to sell one's manifesto and policies. He encourages members to intensify more efforts in the campaigning processes.
(3) Electoral register: He charged the party to demand electoral registers from INEC to know the number of our potential voters who register through us. He believes it is within the law for political parties to demand the electoral register so as to assertain the chances of winning such election.
(4) Party manifesto: Mayor Rotimi Adebari charged YPP to always be the one to present it manifesto to aspirants. He noted that the party has an obligation to have it own manifesto which every aspirants must key into for implementation. He believes the manifesto must be well understood by all so as to ease campaigning and communicating the party's policy to all.
(5) Registration and collection of PVC: Mayor Adebari charged all members of YPP to have their PVC as the only means to winning election. He noted that those that debate more on social media are those that doesn't have their PVC or not even ready to vote at all. He added that PVC remain the weapon to win the fight at elections.
In his summation, Mayor Rotimi Adebari declared before every executives of YPP Ogun state that if he decided to run for the senate under the platform, he will sign a Momorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the leadership of the party's at senatorial level that 50% of his allowance will be going into the constitutncy. He promised the same percentage to the state leadership if he decides to run for governorship. He said that has been his principle of playing politics and promised he will be accessible to all if eventually elected into office.
In closing his address, he said he should be given some time to consult his families, friends and associates and come back with his final decision on joining the party and running under its platform for the position of his choice.
