JUNE 12 DECLARATION BY THE PRESIDENT: AN INVITATION FOR COMRADE BISHOP AMAKIRI IN OGUN STATE

The declaration by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari GCFR yesterday recognising June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria is just a confirmation of the position of Young Progressive Party Ogun State. President Buhari noted that June 12 deserved all the honour of a democratic day as against May 29. He noted that the failure of the then military regime to hand over power to late Chief M.K.O. Abiola does not remove the fact that the election was the freest, fairest and most credible in the democratic history of Nigeria. He therefore, bestowed the honour of posthumous GCFR on M.K.O. Abiola and GCON on his running mate, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe. Also human right activist, Gani Fawehinmi was honoured with posthumous GCON.

The declaration confirmed the position of Young Progressive Party Ogun state which has specified the day as a day to reawaken our political consciousness. YPP Ogun state has been at the forefront of championing the importance of June 12 in our democratic history, thus the reason why an important political program has slated for the day. It was in this course that the party in Ogun state remain the only political party in the southwest and indeed Nigeria that has put in place activities to mark the day. YPP believes that the labor of our heroes past shall not be in vain thus the need to reawaken democratic history on a day like June 12. This is the value and vision that has prompted YPP Ogun state to remain focus with the development that took place on June 12, 1993. June 12 will forever remained relevant as long as their remains a country called Nigeria.

YPP Ogun state June 12 Political Conference and Ogun Progressive Award (OPA) is one that will shake the political landscape of the country. It promises to be a gathering of political actors irrespective of political party in the country. It is a forum to chart a new political path for the country. It is a platform to set new and progressive political agenda for the country. Political party and politicians alike are bracing up for the day to set their record straight to their electorates with a view to giving total voters education and sensitisation. How best can the day be celebrated than sensitising the electorates on their role in sustaining democracy in Nigeria. 2019 election must not witness voters apathy.

Now that the right Democratic Day has been recognised by our president, I congratulate YPP for taking the bold step as the first and only political party to recognises the day. I rejoice with the leadership of YPP Ogun state for this great initiative to not only celebrate June 12 but also thought it wise that the day must begin a new political journey in the democratic history of Ogun state and Nigeria at large. Truly, Young Progressive Party has come to give service to the people.

YPP............... Service to the people.
