Over the years, there has been a debate among Nigerians on wheather to categorise Nigeria as a failed or failing state. This categorisation is more pronounced among the political elite in which an opposition party believes the government in power has failed and thus Nigeria be regarded a failed state. To the government in power, its nothing but a political sentiment.
Either coming from the opposition or government in power, Nigerians have learnt not to believe their politicians anymore because they are nothing but serial liars. No more can we dance to their tune as it's evident that they are one when it comes to looting our national wealth.
A conscious analysis of the country gives one the opportunity to decide where to place her. Very shameful that no sector of the country is worthy of praise. Analysing the sectors one after the other will just be a task in futility. No one can doubt the fact that our leaders are the brain behind our failure as a nation. From the executive to the legislature, they are nothing but bunch of clueless creature.
It is important to understand the fact that the protection given to animals in many countries cannot be compared to what is been given to human lives in Nigeria. The daily bloodshed in our country is enough to trigger ethics and religious war in which some parts of the country believe the killings is deliberate just to wipe out their race. This has also generated international concern as the government in power has continue to remain silent on taking the right step to stop the killings. If the president can't stop the killings in Nigeria, I wonder the primary constitutional responsibility of government.
It won't be out of place to say that this government has failed the country and the people at large. The instability experienced in the economy since the last three years is enough to trigger economic crisis. From interest rate to inflation rate and then exchange rate, one will understand that the instability in these three rates has translated into economic disaster for the nation. The ease of doing business has become a huge threat to investors and sustaining a business has become a burden for all. Small and medium scales business can no longer thrive in which loans from financial houses have become a dead trap to anyone that ventured the risk.
On a daily basis, the quality of life of an average Nigerian is reducing. Security is nothing to write home about as our police and military are continually rated poor in their service delivery. The knocks recieved from international body on our seeming war against corruption is huge minus to this administration.
With less than a year to the expiration of this administration, I don't know if saying that this government has failed Nigeria and Nigerians will amount to hate speech but it is important for Mr President and APC to note that body language doesn't work forever rather right policies and rule of law. It only takes a short while for body language and antecedents to drive a society of over a hundred million citizen.
Either a failed state or not, I implore everyone to check Nigeria with these three criteria;
(1) quality of life of an average Nigerian with respect to our per capital income compared to other countries,
(2) life expectancy of an average Nigerian compared to other countries, and;
(3) protection of an average Nigerian child, the aged and people with disability (our most vulnerable) and their integration into the larger society.
God Bless Nigeria.
