The Young Progressive Party in her just concluded 6th National Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 resolved among other things that the inaugural convention of our great party will be held on September 8, 2018 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja while the Time Table for the Conduct of Primaries of the Party shall be as follows:-
(a) Saturday, 08th September, 2018: Nomination of Presidential Candidate;
(b) Saturday, 15th September, 2018: Nomination of Gubernatorial Candidates in all the relevant States of the Federation;
(c) Saturday, 22nd September, 2018: Nomination of Senatorial Candidates in all the 109 Senatorial Districts of the Federation;
(d) Thursday, 27th September, 2018: Nomination of House of Representatives Candidates in all the 460 Federal Constituencies;
(e) Saturday, 29th September, 2018: Nomination of House of Assembly Candidates in all the States of the Federation;
(f) Tuesday, 02nd October, 2018: Nomination of Area Council Chairmen in all the 6 Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory;
(g) Thursday, 04th October, 2018: Nomination of Councilors in all the Wards of the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.
By this notice, we enjoin all our delegates, aspirants and teeming members to kindly get acquainted with the recently released YPP electoral guidelines for further enquiries.
2. In lieu of the above, the sale of nomination forms for various elective positions on the platform of our great party will commence today August 20, 2018 in line with INEC electoral guidelines. Furthermore, expression of interest form is free for all aspirants while assuring all stakeholders especially our aspirants of an independent transparent process anchored on the principles of option A4 in line with Article 28.1 of the YPP constitution.
3. We strongly condemn the ongoing clamp down on two critical pillars of democracy, "the legislature and press" by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration as evidenced in the recent siege on the National Assembly and unlawful detention of journalists in addition to other undemocratic actions such as the incessant brazen disregard for court orders that have characterized the APC led government since coming to power over three and the half years ago.
4. While commending the swift action of the government in sacking the erstwhile DG of the DSS, we are however yet to be convinced that it was not just a face saving exercise in reaction to the overwhelming national and international condemnation of this shameful display of executive rascality. The only way that justice can be seen as being done is for all those behind this disgraceful act to be unraveled by an independent investigative panel as we are convinced that the former DG of the DSS could not have acted in isolation and all those found culpable should be prosecuted in line with relevant laws bordering on terrorism and treason.
5. The APC government should also snap out of the false illusion that the circumstances precedent before the 2015 elections are still very much in place after they have reneged in almost all their electoral promises. The incessant narrative that Buhari will win the 2019 Presidential election on the false claim that he is already having 12million votes in the face of glaring abject poverty brought upon Nigerians by same is an attempt to rig an election that is yet to be conducted. May we make it clear that a lot have changed for the worse since President Buhari assumed power in 2015 and any attempt to force this unintelligent narrative that his votes remain constant is a psychological mind game by the unpopular APC to give legitimacy to an election they are planning to rig in 2019.
6. We also call on the NASS to apply meticulous speed in the consideration and approval of current INEC budget. In as much as we condemn the late presentation of this request, which has been a norm with the APC administration, the NASS should rise above petty blackmail by the Executive by cutting short their recess with the major consideration being national interest to do justice to the INEC budget presently being attended to by the joint committee of the National Assembly on INEC.
7. While we commend the two weeks extension given for the ongoing voters' registration, it is obvious that the extension so given will hardly be sufficient to capture the teeming millions of Nigerians who are still eligible to be registered. Sadly, the slow and painful medieval process currently being used by INEC to register Nigerians will never allow a seamless registration exercise to be conducted. Technology in the 21st century has gone beyond the present unsustainable approach and any attempt by INEC to insist on ignoring our counsel to develop an APP or software to solve this human inflicted problem will only continue to compound the current challenges. In all, we salute the determination of INEC to conduct a transparent election and in show of good faith, we appeal for a further extension of the registration exercise till mid-October so that a lot of Nigerians will not be disenfranchised.
8. Conclusively, Nigerians should be assured that the Young Progressive Party is determined to challenge the current status quo with credible and young visionary candidates that will be running on our platform. One thing is sacrosanct, PDP or APC can never be an alternative. While the former laid the foundation for poverty, corruption and underdevelopment, the latter rather than destroy the foundation has succeeded in building on same. It is time for a paradigm shift.
