World Teachers' Day 2018: The Right To Education Means The Right To A Qualified Teacher.
Works Teachers' Day was established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO /ILO recommendation concerning the status of teachers which is a standard setting instrument that address the status and situation of teachers around the world. This recommendation outlines standard relating to education personnel policy, recruitment and initial training as well as continuing education of teachers, their employment and working conditions.
World Teachers' Day aim to focus on appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.
The Young Progressive Party Ogun state use the occasion of this day to express our appreciation and love to all teachers in the state for their role in building a well informed and mentally balanced society. To us, teachers are the bedrock of any meaningful society and thus, their role in nation building remain second to none. As a political party that has founded her party structure on a strong foundation of knowledge based ideology and principle, we assure the entire teachers in Ogun state of our maximum support, cooperation and collaboration when our party the Young Progressive Party takes over the leadership of the state come 2019. This we believe can only be possible with the voting strength of teachers in Ogun state to vote massively for YPP come 2019.
With the 2018 World Teachers Day theme of "The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher", the Young Progressive Party believes this theme is right in time. We believe in the quality of our teachers in Ogun state and as well promise to lay a foundation that will further strengthen the quality through adequate policies and programs. Education is central and a core mandate of the YPP manifesto which we are confident of delivering. As a political party driven by young Nigerians, we felt the negative effect of the present state of education in Ogun state the more and thus the reason why education remain our topmost priority.
The welfare of teachers in Ogun state under the leadership of YPP will remain paramount. Workshop for training and retraining of our teachers will remain sacrosanct. In YPP, we believe that only quality teachers can produce quality pupils and students. With massive recruitment of qualified teachers on merit base and adequate training of existing ones coupled with handsome welfare package that teachers in the state never experience before, the performance of our students in external examinations shall project upward as Ogun state is blessed with brilliant and intelligent students. YPP is set to allocate the right percentage to education in her budget which the state has continually failed to do with the excuse that its unrealistic and unimplementable. In fact, YPP is set to build an education policy and system that will make public education more attractive than ever in the state. We have a roadmap on education that will forced parents to have a rethink of whatever perception they have about public schools in Ogun. We are set to build a strong foundation of a knowledge based Ogun state.
As the world celebrate teachers today, the Young Progressive Party Ogun state wishes our teachers the very best in their chosen career. We believe everyone should be rewarded according to their input in the society but very unfortunate that that has not been the case for teachers who have been neglected among other professionals in our society. YPP has come with the mandate that teaching is a noble profession and one that everyone in the society irrespective of position, status or believe will pass through at one leave or the other. This has been our believe and one that has made the issue of education and the teaching profession a priority in our manifesto and policy.
On behave of the State Working Committee and the entire executives of the Young Progressive Party, I congratulate our teachers on the celebration of their day and promise that at YPP, we shall continue to celebrate them on a daily basis because they remain the pillar and strength of our society in the Gateway state.
No Teacher.............. No Nation!
YPP.................... Service to the people!
