Court Bans Monthly Lagos Environmental Sanitation, Says No More

The Appeal Court in Lagos has nullified the monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos State, saying it is illegal and ordered the Lagos State Government not to restrict people’s movement on that day. The court banned the state government from further restricting anyone’s movement within Lagos State at any time or day whatsoever on the basis of environmental sanitation as there is no written law to that effect. Justice Ugochukwu Ogakwu of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division held that in the absence of a written law prescribing the same, the governor’s directive for people in Lagos State to stay at home and not to move about thereby restricting movement of persons in Lagos State within the hours of 7.00am to 10.00am on the last Saturday of every month was unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional. The suit was brought before the court by a citizen, Faith Okafor (Appellant) against the Lagos State Government (Respondent).

Borno State Ready To Prosecute Parents Who Refuse To Send Children To School

Borno State Government today says it would prosecute parents who fail to enroll their children and wards in schools. “Any parent either out of ignorance or willingly refuses to send his child to school will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Alhaji Kaka-Shehu Lawan, the Bono State Attorney General/Commissioner of Justice said. “The government has directed the Borno State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to mobilise all children of school age to be enrolled in schools. It has also invested heavily in constructing new schools and renovating those vandalised by Boko Haram terrorists in the course of the insurgency, so as to provide conducive atmosphere for learning,”the commissioner added. Oyo State Govt Announce 50% Reduction In Salaries Of Political Office Holders

Oyo State Government has announced 50 per cent reduction in the salaries of political office holders, their compensation, approval limits and government’s spending with immediate effect. Alhaji Olalekan Alli, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), disclosed this at a news conference held in Ibadan on Monday. Alli said that the decision was taken at the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday, Nov. 4. He said that it was a measure to shore up the dwindling revenue base of the state. The SSG said that the state had been spending its monthly allocation from the federation account on payment of workers’ salary, which he said, stood at N5.2 billion. Former Controller-General Of Customs, Returns N1bn Cash To FG

A former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, has returned N1,040,000, 000 to the Federal Government, The Punch has learnt. A reliable source within the EFCC told Punch that the suspect had been returning money to the government. The source added, “So far, Dikko has returned over N1bn. He returned N1bn and then N4m. He is still expected to return more money.” It would be recalled that Dikko served as the head of customs between August, 2009 and August, 2015 and became the subject of an EFCC investigation last year when the commission established that about N40bn was diverted from the coffers of the NCS under his watch.
