Oshoala scores for Barcelona during match with Man City

  Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, netted the only goal for Barcelona, as they lost 2-1 to Manchester City in the second leg of their Women’s Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday. The Spanish qualified for the semi-final however, as they had won 3-0 in the first leg. Oshoala was making her seventh appearance in the European competition. She started the encounter along with Caroline Graham Hansen and Mariona Caldentey in the attack for Lluis Cortes’ team. City opened scoring through Janine Beckie in the 20th minute. After the restart, Caldentey brilliantly set up Oshoala, who made no mistake to fire past Lucy Bronze and Robuck in the 59th minute. Samantha Mewis converted from the penalty spot for secure victory for City on the day.

Kano is the most peaceful state in Nigeria - Ganduje boasts

  Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has described the state as the most peaceful, not only in the north but in the entire country despite the spate of insecurity bedevilling Nigeria as many people have currently relocated to the state as a result. This was just as Ganduje explained that the state is a commercial-friendly state that attracts investors from different parts of the world thereby giving job opportunity to the populace. Speaking on behalf of Governor Ganduje, the Special Adviser to the governor on Rural Development, Dr Ibrahim Gaya on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of Domino Pizza in Kano, assured the company that they will not regret coming to Kano. Customs officer drowns in accident while chasing smugglers

  The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, on Wednesday, said it lost an officer in a boat mishap on Monday. The Public Relations Officer, Idaho Sulaiman, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos. He said the incident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. on March 22, while operatives of the command, Akere Surveillance/Monitoring team under Idiroko Outstation, were acting on credible information along Vawhe-Isalu creeks. Mr Sulaiman said the team, led by Inspector of Customs (IC) Ajayi A.S., had the mishap while trying to intercept a boat suspected to be carrying smuggled items. “The accident resulted in the death of Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) Aliyu AA by drowning. “The body of the deceased was found underneath the river with the assistance of villagers around the axis. “The body was taken to General Hospital Badagry and later deposited at the mortuary, having been certified dead by the doctor on call. “The corpse was transported by air on-board MAX air airline to ...

NBA protests over Magistrate's order to jail lawyer in Abuja

There was drama at an Abuja Magistrate’s Court as the magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed, ordered policemen to arrest and handcuff a lawyer, Eburu Barth, for challenging him on the summary of the case before the court. Mohammed of Magistrate Court 2, Wuse Zone 6, thereafter sentenced Barth to two months’ imprisonment for contempt of court. It was gathered that the lawyer was thereafter handcuffed and led out of the courtroom. The lawyer was said to have been taken to Suleja Correctional Centre. However, the Nigerian Bar Association, Unity Bar, Abuja, on Tuesday protested what it called arbitrary use of power by  the magistrate, , against Barth.
